Teemu, 17.01.11, Greetings and a good start of the year!

The ham’s been digested [note: it’s a Finnish tradition to eat special ham on Christmas] and it’s time to get active again little by little. The tiredness in the time of the polar night [note: when the sun doesn’t rise at all – which isn’t even actually happening in Tampere] put its weight on the spirits over Christmas, but I / we made it through.
Now there’s one more week of relaxing ahead, and afterwards the caravan goes into the direction of Lohja for new experiences. The days get longer and soon the mood rises to its highs again.
Personally I cannot quite wait for summer, you’ll bet, since, in the course of this spring, I’ll get my motorcycle-liscence. Well. 30’s-crisis. Heh.

For the spring-tour we’re going to renew the setlist and we’ll try to fulfill your wishes.
We’re working, for example, on Koko talvi kesämökillä [transl.: All winter in the summer cottage], after all it’s winter ’n all. Only one song’s missing. But not too long.

Don’t you forget to behave, to be at peace, and to love.
New year, new deficits.
– Teemu

Jussi, 09.03.11, Winter depression has been defeated

Hey.
It seems that winter depression has been defeated. Cheers! We got a couple of additional gigs for April: Tampere and Helsinki. The Tampere gig is TAMKO’s [TAMKO = the Student Union of Tampere University of Applied Sciences) student party so probably people are there in their overalls. But be brave and be there if you dare, the event is not a private party.

Even though we will only start working on the next album at the end of this year, a few new song drafts have already seen the light so it seems that there are no problems with song writing. Yes, and a few days ago we took Kultakalat (radio edit) to the radio stations so please support us just the way you have done this far. You have been great.

See you at gigs.
– Jussi

13.06.2012, Jussi | News

Greetings, everyone!

I’ve been planning to write an update for a long time now. It’s already the second year after the release of our album „Kultakalat“. In a way that’s not any time at all. However the thoughts have been ticking around new Uniklubi songs for a little while now, and that’s good. It was refreshing to do new things with Nefernefernefer and it has also given me new perspectives on many things.

What’s clear is that Uniklubi’s musical style is going to be renewed into another direction, which means you are hardly going to hear a ’second Kultakalat‘. And since Teemu changed places, a new bassist will surely bring a new edge to the band. One great bass-artist has already promised to try out what playing with us feels like. We’re excited to see what’s going to happen. – But more about that later.

This is how – so to say – a new adventure with the band starts and we’ll go back to business as soon as we sorted out the details, so that we can also start making music. Until then goodbye, and a really good summer to everyone.

With love, Jussi

19.02.10, JUSSI | Wintergreetings!

I’m writing in here again after a long time. I’ve mainly focused on travelling and writing lyrics for the last 1 1/2 months. We will still have a couple of shows here before we start the actual work on the next album. Soon our mental strength will be put to a test and the so-called stress will sneak in slyly from background and take away the hope for a future. But that’s how it goes.

Probably there’s nothing else to write about. I don’t dare telling you anything about the songs so far, nor are walking a cat or grocery shopping such things that I’d write about in here. You can listen to the record when it comes out. Silmänisku

See you and try to survive.
-Jussi

31.03.10, Jussi | Into the ovens of the studio

Hey again.
Today at band-camp we finished the demos for the last songs and on monday we should be going into the studio’s ovens. I started a topic called „Uniklubi in the studio 2010“ in the forum. There you can go to follow the feelings in the studio etc.
Nothing more to say this time… We’ll update!

22.06.10, Jussi | Juhannus is coming closer

Hello!
Hey, the first concert of the summer’s drawing nearer at great speed. Tomorrow and on Thursday we’re going to rehease, so that we’re spared from the bigger stupid mistakes. Today we had some talk with the record lable about the upcoming release date etc, i.e. the ’newest‘ results are coming soon. And probably very soon we’re going to be able to make you hear the first taste of the new album, so that you know what to expect. 😉
Listen up and a nice juhannus to everyone!

12.07.10, Teemu | Teemu’s Summergreetings

Hello!
Damp & sweaty news from Tampere, Finland! The summer has started little by little when it comes to the gigs, and also Romantiikan Riippet have been on the scene already. The show at Lahden Yöt [Lahti] was a blast. Thanks to everyone who’s been there.

Most of all however, apart from the sun, a brand new release is heating up the emotions. In a good sense. The single ‚Aikasi on nyt‘ found a good feedback and we’re in good spirits that we we got a not-so [BASIC] song playing on the radio. After a few weeks we’ll be finishing -Kultakalat-, after which the waiting will expand to non-manageable proportions. Already craving for a new club-tour. Only now will be shown who fixes it. I.e.: we will.

Don’t forget to share your endless support for our band by voting for us so that the song will be on the top of all the radio playlists. And a dear welcome to shows at the end of the summer.

PS. It might be that you’re going to hear/see something cool at DBTL (Down by the Laituri, festival in Turku). Hopefully.

-Teemu

26.07.10, Pictures from the recordings for the video of Aikasi on Nyt

Hey. Here are some pictures by Mira Suutari from the video shoot for Aikasi on nyt.
Thousand thanks to all the helpers!

06.09.10, Jussi | Waiting for the record…

Hey.
Great. So the show-dates are released and the record is in the shops soon. Impossible to wait for the bus to start again so that we get to play. Especially the new songs are great to play.

We’ve been rehearsing and we’ve done some promo. In magazines like Sue, Rumba and Sound you can read what we have to say about anything related to the release of the record 🙂 You’ve also been fabulous at voting. Especially on Himottuimmat [YleX’s „most wanted“-list] – Thank you all for that!

We’re continuing the rehearsals. See you soon at the shows.

-Jussi

13.10.10, Jussi | Maailmaa puhaltaa video done!

Hello.

The video for Maailma puhaltaa is filmed now. It’s going to be finished next week. We hope that it’ll be also be shown.
A huge thanks to everyone who came to the shooting and spend a few ours freezing together with us.
Your help was irreplacable. Thank you.

– Jussi

14.01.2009, Jussi | News

Hello!
A little update:
I went to the doctor’s yesterday (13.1.) [to have his vocal cords operated -Ng] and my recovery will take longer than expected. The voice therapy begins in two weeks‘ time and the recovery will take in total four weeks. After that I can sing normally again. The recovery and voice therapy are very important now so that I wouldn’t have to go to an operation like that ever again, don’t you think so? Because of this, the gig scheduled for 22.1. has to be cancelled.  😦

This is kinda sad but there’s nothing else we can do. „Let’s move on, said the Grandma when stuck in snow.“ [No idea whether there’s a corresponding proverb in English -Ng] But don’t worry, the vocal parts for the album were finished before the surgery… In a few songs you can hear „sexy growling or oinking“ that is sexy in my opinion… but isn’t it just rock’n’roll!  😉 Well, anyways I’m very happy with the result of our studio sessions!
What else… Remember all those votings like Himoituimmat etc. REMEMBER TO VOTE!
Yeah, it’s bye for now.
-Jussi

16.02.2009, Jussi | Album being pressed

Hello! Now it’s the case that the record’s been pressed and some time and place it will drop from the letter box into my fingers. And it’s good to know that! 🙂 So I get the record a little earlier than the rest of you but the suffering artist is granted that.
Yes, I have indeed the unmastered record there and there’s not much else to say than that I’m damn proud of that album. I also believe that you’ll like it, and if you won’t like it then you don’t like anything. 🙂

We’re about to start practising for the tour this week, and there’s one surprisegig going to be fixed somewhere… time’s a surprise. 🙂 I forgot the date.
Yay, not too long until we hit the road!

PS: The concert in Järvenpää was cancelled because of the organiser. We’re trying to shift the concert to another place.

See you,
– Jussi“

09.03.2009, Jussi | Tour starts!

Hello!
Well. So the record is in stores right now and the Syvään Valoon-tour starts from Salo on 13.3.
At this point we already did some shows. Shows in Lapland and the release-gig in Amadeus. There was a bit of stiffness/nervousness in the beginning since there’d been a break before but after all we started getting a hang on it again on the show at Amadeus so we’ll go back on the road with good feelings this weekend.

We’re going to take a camera on tour so that some special material will find its way to the diary. We’re also going to get some music-video material on tour.

Not much more than that right now. See you on the shows!
– Jussi

 05.04.2009

That Kukka-thing, that is the song Kukka is now out to the radio and again we need your votes for all the votings. Thanks.
We also have to thank Bloodpit for the shows at Yo-talo and Flamingo. It was really great and maybe there’s going to be some bigger disaster than earlier in the furture.

Nothing more at the moment.

 04.05.2009, Jussi

Hello.
Well, the first part of Syvään valoon tour is now completed. It’s been amazing, thanks to you. But we won’t have too much of vacation here because the festivals are soon calling…

During May we are also going to record a couple of new songs for Mitä vittua EP, which is due to be released at the end of the summer. But anyways, enjoy the sun and thank you for a successful tour.

yeah.

06.08.09, Jussi | Summergreetings!

Hello.

The festivalsummer little by little begins to be [? over?] except for several [? strokes?]. Great it has been and together with the guys we thought about doing some sort of report of what’s happened over the summer as soon as we made it to the beginning of September. And waiting for the Mitä Vittua-EP I could search for something off our videocamera that got lost somewhere in the spring, so that we also get more chaos for your joy.

Yeah, but hei we’re alive and of course there’s going to be more of „just great“ shows.

Seeya,
– Jussi

24.1.2008, Antti | Vacation spent, touring started

Well… the vacation is over (everyone spent it their own way) and we’ve started playing shows again. After last weekend’s eventful show in Tahko the journey continued to Varkaus and Porvoo. People from Porvoo are actually going to get two gigs. It’s going to be a lot of hurrying but that’s just fine. The setlist is renewed and also our light-setting has seen quite a change (thanks to our light-artist Tomppa) and it’s all gonna be a blast, so „OFF TO THE SHOWS!“ dear friends! It’s great to be with you and lay some good rock’n’roll!

– Antti

28.01.2008, Jussi | Things are startin‘ to run smoothly

Yeah yeah… now things are startin‘ to work smoothly! Our new monitor-guy „Hii“ brings wonderful sound to our ears and now that we’ve played a few shows we’re warming up and the main goal is to rock around Finland 😉 The bar-show in Porvoo last weekend was damn heavy from my point of view – it was just so damn fun to play! We hope that we can go on in the same manner so that we can wake up from the winter depression!! Yeah!
-Jussi

20.02.2008, Antti | Frantic atmosphere

Hellou!
Yep… this is how the band’s virginity when it comes to Abi-cruises goes. Frantic atmosphere! Playing on a ferry is a quite special thing anyway, but of course those guys manage to know how to make a mess. We’re off to Kotka and Evijärvi next, so no ferry-diner but back to basics! The tour’s going great and the shows get better and better all the time. Soon we’re already off to Lapland and then … maybe we can do some sledding there!?! More sh*t to the pants!!

-Antti

PS: We were already trying to find a cool name for the tour, but at the moment we’re still searching.

10.03.2008, Jussi

Hey there!
Yesterday the bus was full of tired boys when we drove home from Pieksämäki… or actually I already gave my last on Saturday. It was nice to see snow and light after a long time! Yepyep…
We had a good time and the shows went well!

It just sucks that my head won’t work at all now that I try to scribble something about our tour in Lapland. Got to take it easy for a couple of days now until we’re at Apollo Live Club in Helsinki on Wednesday!:)

See ya.

PS: Antti can tell you about tours on snowmobiles etc.

-Jussi

01.04.2008, Antti | Dizzy day!

A dizzy day everyone!
Look how fast the time went again, and the last note was so long ago. A lot of things happened since the tour in Lapland and we’re toured through Finland in a zigzag course in a good mood. 🙂

It was nice to recognise that we quickly got used to playing the new songs and that slowly but surely we’re feeling a tickle when it comes to making a new record… wonderful!! But before that we’ll bring the spring-tour to an end, and, even better: SUMMER and FESTIVALS! YAY!

But back to this week… according to the programme we’re off to some sort of „leave your brains at the entrance and come aboard“-weekend. Hopefully the wave of flu that’s been attacking the band is starting to ebb away and the guys are in shape for the shows. I’ve personally suffered from the flue for almost two weeks now, but it’s luckily better by now! Also the sun is coming out more and more, so nothing left to do but putting sailor-hats to our heads and rock’n’roll! – HOP HOP!

– Antti

24.04.2008, Jussi | New songs

Hey there!
Yesterday we rehearsed the new songs for the first time and I can say that the feeling about the songs is damn strong! We managed to work on three songs and today we’re going to rehearse some more.

Yes, and just like Teemu wrote earlier [note: in the Forum], the show is over after three shows and it’s really incredible how fast the time has gone again. It’s such a good beat that we can’t pause to take a breath – our thoughts are already with the next record and then back on the road!

Sun for you all!!!

– Jussi

12.05.2008, Antti | The journey to a new album

Greetinx!
So now we’ve started the journey to the new album. The first demos are already done. A few days ago we demoed seven new songs and I have to say that it’s a great feeling. During the summer we want to record some more demos and then we’re off to the studio in fall.

Before that you’re going to be spoiled with the compilation record that will be out in autumn. We also added a few new pieces to the well-known songs, as well as some more extras. At the end of the year we’re also going to release our Uniklubi – Rakkaudesta Hulluuteen-photo book, which includes pictures of all the best (and maybe also the worst) moments from the whole Luotisade-tour.

At the end of this month Uniklubi is nevertheless starting their summer tour which is going to extend over lots of festivals around Finland and elsewhere.

Have a nice time waiting for summer everyone! Enjoy the sun and the warmth in case Finnish summer has any of those to offer…

-Antti

13.11.2008, Jussi | Gloomy autumn

Hello everyone!
It’s been a gloomy autumn as you’ve probably read as well. We had to cancel our acoustic tour we had planned and waited for cordially because of my voice-problems. Totally fucked up…

A trauma was diagnosed in my vocal cords which required quiet and care … all the nice things were forbidden. Now the situation is under control and at the beginning of next year we’ll start playing shows again just like we planned. The first single should come out in January. But more about the tour for the album and the release date later! There is also going to be a new design for the website … it’s going to be pretty and informative again. 🙂

But the reason why I wanted to give you an update is that next week I’m going to sing the first songs for recording and that’s really great! More news from the studio can be discussed in our forum. The topic’s name is „Petrax 2008/Studiopäiväkirja“ [note: The translations for Syvään Valoon Studio Diary can be found here], even though we’re finishing our record at the Deerhouse studio (here in Tampere). But no more about this.
I’m going to rush back to the studio now at a speed that’ll make sparks fly… got to listen to Janne’s and Pasi’s guitar-playing. Yes.

Seeya.
-Jussi

25.11.2008, Jussi | Chinese Democrazy [sic!]

Wow, Guns n‘ Roses‘ „Chinese Democrazy“ [sic!] sounds really great and Axl’s vocals are pretty strong. Aiai. There’s some time to hang around on the couch at home now at the end of our days in the studio.
Nothing else to say this time … 🙂

-Jussi

23.12.2008, Jussi | Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hello.
Oh dear, how fast the year has passed by again along the way, and almost as if by accident we also made a record. Yes! There are still a couple of songs to do and then our fourth record is done.

On the 8th [note: of January ’09] I’m going to be at YleX to talk some nonsense and as far as I know I will have to present our brand-new single „Polje“ for the first time. So be there to listen. I don’t know at which time it’s going to come out (just like always) but January 8th is definitely the day our first single is going to have its premiere.

We’re also going to shoot the video on that day and if everything goes really well then the website is also going to open then, but let’s see…
But well, maybe nothing else but a big thanks to you for the past year from everyone in the band!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Love,
Jussi

12.8.2007, Jussi | Report

Greetings!!
I just wrote an unbelievably long report about the events of the last weeks for this diary and I somehow managed to screw it up when I put it on the page. DAMN!!

So now I have to scribble all of it again, even though I’m beginning to get tired 😦 Yah, today we had the first rehearsal in which we practised to put the new songs into shape for the concerts.
It felt good to have the songs in the back of the head… that’s the way it goes!

We’re also going to shoot the video in Upinniemi! That’s the place where the soldiers and warships kept the Finnish neighbours in order, yeah!
Jep, but we’ll get good shots in the meantime! At some point there’ll surely be pictures of the video shoot on the website. But I’m falling asleep over here, got to get up at eight tomorrow to reach the train.

We’ll hear from each other!
– Jussi

24.8.2007, Jussi | New album in stores

Yes, so the new record is out in the stores now. The mood is great, even though we’re nervous about how the record will be received… but a little bit of nervousness is part of the business; otherwise there wouldn’t be any sense in doing the whole thing.

The release gig went well even though we were so terribly tired because we spent the whole day doing promo around Helsinki.
Tomorrow we’re doing an acoustic mini-gig in Tampere and if you want autographs just get there everybody!

See you!
– Jussi

9.9.2007, Jussi | Studio-day

Yesterday I’ve been in the studio recording Leevi and the Leavings‘ song „Koko talvi kesämökillä“ [The whole winter in the summer cottage] of which we’ve done our very own, maybe a little punkish version. Apparently it will be released on some compilation-record but more about that when I actually know something about it… 🙂
Anyway, I’ve never had such an exhausting day in the studio! Tired and pissed off, I’d rather have spent the day at home under the blanket. But after all we managed to make a good recording. And what made the day so much better was that our producer Jari „Jaska“ Latomaa surprisingly found a bottle of cognac in whatever hiding place it must have disappeared to when we were wasted.
And so we spend last evening, even though I’m not really a friend of cognac. Thanks to Jari, also for the ciggies!

When we left the studio we first hit a bar and then went home – our football team, Dogs Ball, had the end-of-season party … Janne got this year’s „prairie rabbit“-award because he’s a terribly fast guy. And still keeps the ball in control when dashing over the field!
Tonight I should go to sing the background vocals for that Leevings‘ song. – Right now I’m neither pissed off nor tired, on the contrary, I think that it’s going to be a nice day. And that’s what I hope for you, too!

– Jussi

19.9.2007, Jussi | Aboard ship

Hello again!

Tomorrow we’re off to go aboard the ship again, wondering what’s going to happen this time. There’s this weird thing that someone always leaves something at home when going on a ship… manners, for example. I’m not excluding myself here 😉 Damn, when there isn’t anything else to do than sitting in the cabin waiting for the show with a crate of beer under my arm, and then after the show there’s waiting for the next day because there’s another show, then, well, what the hell!!!
I’m a little nervous, maybe I should go to the library and look for something nice to read for tomorrow!

– Jussi

30.9.2007, Pasi | New darling

Hey there on my behalf 🙂
I bought a new guitar last week, a Les Paul Custom Red Wine. I already took the new darling on the trip last weekend and it was nice to play on it 🙂 The tour started off well and of course it’ll be fun to continue it. Today I’m planning to go to Klubi together with Jucci, listening to some bands (for example Deep Insight, Nitrokiss) and having some drinks … yay 🙂

See you on the shows if you get there!!
– Pasi

3.10.2007, Antti | Tour

Hello, people!

So here we go again today. Our next stop is Lahti, so let’s all go there to rock at Diva tonight!
The tour has started off really well and we’re in a good concert-shape by now. The new songs are great to play and have found their live-shapes – the band is full of energy and we want to play for you, dear people, don’t miss to see Uniklubi live at our best ever. After Lahti we’re going to play in Helsinki again this week and then we’re off to the ferry again…

Behave!
– Antti

9.10.2007, Jussi | It’s 4.50

Hey!
It’s almost 4.50 in the morning and I don’t feel like sleeping at all!
I just wrote the first lyrics/song after Varjot, which is on the new record. I saved the song as a demo on my computer and named it „Hiekka silmissä“ [Sand in the eyes]. I can’t tell whether the demo will ever ‚come to life’… that is, whether we’ll find that „thing“ in the rehearsals that makes it worth recording… but anyway…

The sun’s not shining anymore!!!!

– Jussi

30.10.2007, Jussi | Home unharmed

Hey!

We’ve made it home from last weeks touring unharmed. JEE!! I’ve got to say that it got quite aggressive! 🙂 The damn flu should finally give up; I’ve run out of visions and medication… 😦

Yep… the reason I wanted to write something this evening is that the long awaited PES 2008 has finally found its way to our homes… though actually I’ll only get the game tomorrow 😦 HOW NEAT!!!!

I’m gonna get my ass up now and head to Janne’s because he actually got the game right when it came out.

– Jussi

21.11.2007, Jussi | The arts

Greetings!
Yesterday me and the guys went to Universal Music’s office in Helsinki where we made art. We drew / decorated the cover for our single „Varjoon juuttunut“ [Stuck in a shadow] with whatever came to our minds. It was fun to be creative with a bottle of wine making its rounds. We decorated 500 singles, so we’re talking about especially rare releases 😉

Today I had the first acustic rehearsals with the guys, let’s see what will happen on this The Voice -event then… [Note: Uniklubi performed Varjoon Juuttunut and Varjot on The Voice. The performance was filmed and the videos were released on TV and on the compilation KMMA03-08] It’s good to know that the songs also work in the unplugged version.
But well… I’m currently mentally preparing myself for this nights‘ football game Portugal vs. Finland. Let’s see how it goes for Finland!!

All the best then!
– Jussi

13.12.2007, Antti | The first official street team

Hello and greetings, folks!
It’s finally there: Uniklubi’s first official street team is now a fact. As was said in the news and in the forum, we’re now looking for people, so go ahead now, folks and take part in if you’re interested in any way. On behalf of the band I’d like to send out a huge thank you to those who made the street team happen and also to the coming street team members!! *DEEP BOW* Street team members‘ efforts will definitely rewarded by the band!

Now it’s time to play this year’s last gigs and then we’ll have a bit of a Christmas break… it’s sweet to have a holiday every now and then! When thinking about the tour and how it’s been so far there’s definitely a great feeling and wonderful memories of it! After New Years there’ll be some more shows from 19.1.2008 onwards – some of them have already been released in the gig calendar, but there are definitely more coming up so don’t forget to keep an eye on the news in the meantime.
(It should finally start SNOWING so that we can do some downhill sleigh-riding!!)

-Antti

PS: Don’t forget to vote for Uniklubi on the websites of the radio stations!

16.12.2007, Jussi | Peaceful Christmas

Hoi!

I wanted to come and wish you all a peaceful Christmas! I’ll spend the holidays on Bali. Let’s see whether I get to do some sleigh-riding there… hehe 🙂
Thank you all for the nice year! Take care!

– Jussi

28.12.2007, Antti | Happy new year!

Heyho!

It’s time to wish you all a Happy New Year on behalf of the whole crowd! Is there any better way to start a party than coming to witness the last show of our „Don’t drink at work -tour 2007“ at Tampere’s Klubi on Sunday!? After the festivities we’ll spend another few days off and then we go again: new shows, new pranks, and a new stupid name for the tour!
Have a great party and take care!

– Antti

PS: Still no news about downhill sleigh-riding… damn!!
